I’ve got my microwave on a shelf and have hung a battery operated light underneath the shelf. Problem is that the batteries keep dying on me. Does anyone know if there is something I can put between the two to keep this from happening? Also, will the microwave emit stuff that will kill plants? I also have a shelf about 4″ above the microwave that I’d like to put live plants on but am leary if its killing the batteries. Have tried putting aluminum foil between the top of the light and bottom of the microwave - doesnt work.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a mug that I once put in the microwave and it sparked because it had metallic writing on it. Recenty my son put a cup in the microwave with a spoon in it and it did not spark. I tried putting that other mug in and it did not spark. Is this causing us harm? Should I get a new microwave or just new magnets. My microwave is at least 20 years old but it still heats things up. I steam chicken with water in a plate (for my dog) in the microwave, won’t this water affect the microwave.The roof & door of my previous microwave got rusted but I’m not sure whether it was due to the water from steaming chicken.This time I wouldn’t want my new microwave to get rusted too & hence ask your expert opinions to help me.
Also, in the new oven, I continue to heat up chicken in some water in microwave mode. How do I prevent the rust problem for recurring.

Instead i should put on cling wrap (that sticky plastic wrap) over the container and microwave. Aren’t they both plastic anyway? Is the cling wrap more safe to microwave than the plastic lid on?
